This study evaluated the influence of Tanzania-grass sward height (30, 50, 70 and 90 cm) on the morphological characteristics of the canopy, grazing behavior and forage intake by adult Anglo Nubian female goats. A completely randomized experimental design was employed, with two replicates in space and two replicates in time. Six animals were used to assess the grazing behavior, and four, the ingestion process. The rise in sward height increased the forage and leaf mass, the percentages of stem and dead material, and reduced the leaf stem-1 ratio. This study aimed to model the food intake of P. margaritifera in order to examine the relationship between food level and reproductive activity. The effect of microalgae concentration on ingestion rate and assimilation efficiency was studied over a broad concentration range, using a mixture of Isochrysis galbana and Chaetoceros gracilis. Reproductive effort was assessed using three microalgae concentrations of 0.5, 7 and 18 cell μL-1. Jellyfish as an alternative source of food for opportunistic fishes ArchiMer

Although scientific interest on jellyfish ecology has substantially increased in the last decades, little is known on the role of potential predators shaping their population dynamics. Jellyfish were long considered as ‘dead ends’ within food webs, and therefore overlooked as potential food source for higher trophic levels, e.g. fishes. Here this question is tackled by using comprehensive laboratory experiments assessing fish predation on jellyfish. Physiological responses of female and male black-lip pearl oysters (Pinctada margaritifera) to different temperatures and concentrations of food ArchiMer

This study was designed to measure responses of four-year-old black-lip pearl oysters (Pinctada margaritifera) to different temperatures and food concentrations and to identify the energy requirements of each sex. Oysters were fed a monospecific microalgal diet of Isochrysis affinis galbana (T-iso). Measurements of oxygen consumption and ingestion rates were carried out at 24 degrees C and 27 degrees C and at two algal (T-iso) concentrations: 5000 and 30 000 cell ml(-1). Glycogen content in adductor muscle, absorption efficiency and scope for growth were also estimated. Влияние условий питания на скорость потребления и переваривания пищи у лопастного гребневика Mnemiopsis leidyi IBSS Repository

Изучен эффект условий питания (концентрации пищи, объема экспериментальных сосудов) на скорость по­требления, фильтруемый объем и время переваривания у лопастного гребневика-вселенца в Черное море Mnemiopsis leidyi. Установлено, что связь между скоростью питания (I, экз экз -1 ) и концентрацией пищи (С, экз л -1) описывается уравнением прямой 1 = 0.374 С + 1.731 с высоким коэффициентом детерминации 0.869. Объем воды, освобожденный животным от пищевых организмов в единицу времени, практически остается постоянным в широком диапазоне исследованных концентраций, составляя в среднем 0.294±0.076 л г -1 сы­рой массы час -1 у животных длиной 20 - 30 мм. Изучено влияние условий питания (вид и концентрация пищи, размер хищника и жертвы, количество жертв в кишечнике) на время переваривания и скорость потребления пищи у личинок лопастного гребневика Mnemiopsis leidyi. Время переваривания у личинок длиной 0.5 – 9.5 мм при потреблении пищевых объектов 9 видов, различающихся по размерам более чем на порядок (от 0.15 – науплии акарции до 1.8 мм – личинки креветок), зависело от вида пищи и размеров личинок, снижаясь по мере роста личинок и уменьшения размера жертв. Связь между скоростью питания (R, экз.–1) и концентрацией пищи (N, экз. л–1) описывалась линейным уравнением R = 0.04N – 0.71 и R = 0.02N + 2.4 при потреблении науплий Acartia sp. 5 и 9 мм личинками мнемиопсиса соответственно.
